Travel Grants

The Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) has been committed to promoting excellence in ophthalmology and supporting the professional development of ophthalmologists, researchers, residents, and trainees across the Asia-Pacific region. As part of the ongoing efforts to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration, the APAO is offering two types of Travel Grants for the highly anticipated APAO 2024 Congress, taking place on February 22 – 25, 2024 in Bali, Indonesia.

  • APAO Prof. Yasuo Tano Travel Grants 

The APAO Prof. Yasuo Tano Travel Grants support up to 10 selected applicants attending the APAO 2024 Congress. Each successful applicant will receive US$1,000 if they live outside the host country of the APAO 2024 Congress, whereas those who live in Indonesia will receive US$300.

The Prof. Yasuo Tano Travel Grants are open to ophthalmologists in the Asia-Pacific region, with priority given to those whose age is 40 or less, from a developing country and whose abstracts (Free Paper, Poster, e-Poster, Video, or Instruction Course) have been accepted by the APAO 2024 Scientific Program Committee.

Please note that previous recipients of the Prof. Yasuo Tano Travel Grants are welcome to re-apply, though priority will be given to first-time recipients. Applications from the APAO 2023 Travel Grant recipients will not be accepted.

  • APAO Young Ophthalmologists (YO) Travel Grants

The APAO Young Ophthalmologists (YO) Travel Grants support up to 5 residents in training or fellows in the Asia-Pacific region. Each successful applicant will receive US$1,000 if they live outside the host country of the APAO 2024 Congress, whereas those who live in Indonesia will receive US$300.

YO Travel Grants are open to young ophthalmologists including residents, trainees, and fellow ophthalmologists* from a developing country and whose abstracts (Free Paper, Poster, e-Poster, Video, or Instruction Course) have been accepted by the APAO 2024 Scientific Program Committee.

* Only applicants who register for the APAO 2024 Congress as ‘young ophthalmologists (under 40 years’ old)’ are eligible to apply for the YO Travel Grants.

Application and Selection

Eligible applicants can apply for both types of Travel Grants at the same time, but he/ she can only receive one Travel Grant through the selection process.

In addition to the funding for travels, recipients of the Travel Grants will also enjoy free Congress Registration and invitation to the Congress Cultural Party.

Interested candidates should complete the online application now available on the congress system at http://congress.apaophth.org/ until September 13, 2023. The application will close at 23:59 on September 13, 2023 (GMT+8).

Selection will be made by the APAO Travel Grants Committees and the results will be announced in November/December 2023.
